What are the basic benefits for an employee under Florida’s Workers Compensation Law?
February 20, 2026 | By Jeff HowellGenerally speaking, Florida law allows for the recovery of medical benefits for conditions related to your on the job accident and if you are taken off of work, depending upon the level of disability, there are certain categories of payments that may be due depending on upon whether a doctor has said you cannot work for a period of time. In very simple terms, the two most common types of benefits are:
- Medical Benefits– You will receive approved medical care and prescriptions for your injury from a provider authorized by the employer’s workers compensation insurance company; and
- Disability Benefits—categories of payment for wage loss for days you miss work, as determined by the doctor and payable depending upon whether your condition is permanent, temporary and either totally disabling or partially disabling. [ i.e., Temporary Partial Disability (TPD); Temporary Total Disability (TTD); and Permanent Total Disability (PTD).]
There are also other categories of benefits including vocational rehabilitation; Impairment Benefits; and death benefits. Read more at
