Office Surgery Facility Inspections: What does it mean? Part 3
November 19, 2025 | By Crystal SanfordRequirements for Level I Office Surgery (Including Liposuction)
If you are a registered office surgery facility in Florida performing Level I procedures and are not nationally accredited, the Department of Health (Department) will conduct pre-registration and annual inspections of your facility.
Department Inspectors will come to your office on inspection day and check for the following items related to Level I Office Surgery:
- Compliance with training requirements.
- Compliance with equipment and supplies required.
- The office has intravenous access supplies, oxygen, oral airways, and a positive pressure ventilation device.
- The office stores the following medications at manufacturer’s recommendation: Atropine 3 mg, Diphenhydramine 50 mg, Epinephrine 1 mg in 10 ml, Epinephrine 1 mg in 1 ml vial, 3 vials total, and Hydrocortisone 100 mg.
Failing to comply with the requirements will result in a failed inspection. Failed inspections require Corrective Action Plans, or CAPs, to be submitted to the Department within a specified period of time and must address each failed item noted in the inspection report.
Preparing CAPs can be complicated. Failing to address each item and/or failing to submit a CAP within the specified time frame or not submitting one could result in an Administrative Complaint being filed against your office surgery registration and the designated physician’s medical license.
This can be avoided. Let our Florida medical practice attorneys help you prepare for the inspection, and if needed, help prepare a CAP. Our attorneys have over 30 years of experience in health care law and are ready to assist you and your office surgery facility. Give us a call today!
