Helpful Tips – Florida’s Office Surgery Registration and Inspection Program Updates
January 29, 2025 | By Crystal SanfordThe Florida Office Surgery Registration and Inspection Program is now being administered by the Florida Board of Medicine instead of the Florida Department of Health. You can find information about office surgery registration at the Florida Board of Medicine website.
At the December 2024 meeting of the Florida Board of Medicine, the Board, in conjunction with the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine, approved a new application for individuals desiring to open an office surgery facility in Florida. The new application is in effect now and you can access the application here
The new application asks questions about the facility layout, including the number of beds for surgery and recovery, in an attempt to determine if you are eligible for an office surgery registration. The Boards now ask for a legible drawing of the facility layout. If your facility layout is similar to an ambulatory surgery center or you provide mostly elective surgical care, you may be unable to register for an office surgery registration. Instead, you may be required to apply for an Ambulatory Surgery Center license with the Agency for Health Care Administration.
