Common Problems with Licensure Applications: Resumes and Curriculum Vitae
November 18, 2024 | By Joseph V. DeFeliceMost professionals prepare a resume or curriculum vitae (CV), and they use it for various purposes. They may be used to apply for licenses, employment, education, professional associations, presentations and many other purposes. The accuracy of your resume or CV is imperative.
Government agencies such as the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) or the Department of Health (DOH) typically use the month, day, year format (MM/DD/YYYY) on their applications. Many online application systems do not allow you to proceed forward unless you include the month, day and year. Furthermore, many agencies and online systems will not accept “00” as substitute for the day; you must have an actual date.
Our Clients, such as applicants for licensure with the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) or the Department of Health (DOH), have ran into obstacles due to this requirement. This can cause significant delay in the licensure process, potentially leading to significant losses. We often advise our Clients how to move forward with an application after receiving a deficiency letter from the Agency or Department.
Here are some tips:
- When you start drafting your resume or CV, include the proper date format of MM/DD/YYYY for all dates. This is the best time to do it because the information is fresh in your mind. As time goes on, you will not remember and will most likely have to dig through a box of papers to find the information.
- Update your resume or CV often and use the proper dating format. Whenever something new occurs, such as a new position or new training experience, that you want in your resume or CV, update it immediately.
- Have your resume or CV on hand when completing applications. Because your resume or CV is accurate, you can safely use the information to complete applications, and it saves time.
- Be sure to maintain a back up of your electronic resume or CV.
